Frequently asked questions
General
We typically sail in sight of land at all times and at night we anchor fairly close to an island so you don’t have to worry about being “lost at sea”. Regarding sailing and managing the boat, we take care of all of that. We encourage people to ask questions and help out as to start to learn how to manage various parts of the sailboat.
A catamaran is a large, wide, stable boat that handles waves exceptionally well. Further, they are designed to go slow and roll with the waves. We have tips and over-the-counter medications that can help with any sea-sickness. Our experience is that if it does flare up, it will generally subside before long. We have not had anyone not have an awesome time!
No, each cabin has its own bathroom with toilet, shower and sink. You will only have to share the bathroom with your cabin-mate.
No, we will arrange all of the food and menu for the week. We only ask that you help out with the others in making a meal or two, helping with dishes, etc. Camp style!
No, to keep our trips simple and focused on the objectives we have, alcohol is not permitted on the boat. When we stop at islands etc, having a drink on shore is fine..
Just let us know. We can typically accommodate most dietary requests. If not, we will let you know!
There are no “quick fixes” to marital issues. Our suggestion is that while this trip might be fun, it can also put one spouse in an uncomfortable position and “getting off” the boat is difficult. Marital counseling or a retreat such as “Marriage Intensive” from Focus on the Family may be a better avenue at this time. Our trips are focused on re-igniting, and re-focusing, vs. spending the time necessary to adequately address deep hurts that have been built up over a long period of time.
The costs have been paid for people who have gone before you. We only ask that you help contribute towards shared food costs. If you desire, you can "pay it forward" to bless future people to have a life-changing experience aboard the Waymaker. You can make a contribution to our Patreon page.
You are responsible for the costs getting to and from the boat. If we hire another captain to help sail the boat (in new places to help us learn the local hot spots) then we ask that everyone share in the cost of the captain’s fee and gratuity.
